Why STARCARD?

 

Many people find themselves in the situation of buying a ticket from the driver for 25 roubles – 10 roubles more than a ticket from a kiosk.  Kiosks are not at all stops, work limited times, and the validity period of the tickets is limited: you can buy 20 trips, not have time to use half of them before the month has passed and the remaining trips evaporate.  This is very familiar to those who don’t use public transport every day, only off and on.  Now it is not necessary to pay extra to the bus driver at the bus stop, or to worry about losing money because of unused trips.

The new prepaid, contactless STARCARD allows you to forget about these problems for ever.  The card is very simple to use: money, in multiples of 100 roubles, is loaded onto STARCARD in advance and when boarding a bus STARCARD is passed over the validator which allows access to the salon. STARCARD works just the same as a usual contactless smartcard.
 
Thus cost of trip is guaranteed not to exceed the base tariff (the cost for one trip), and money on the card can be used for ONE year from the moment of last replenishment or use of the card.  This is the added advantage of "STARCARD" over the usual tickets for public transport.
 
With "STARCARD" you not only don’t have to worry about the money left on a ticket, but you can also save money.  The more you load on STARCARD at a time, the cheaper each trip becomes.

"STARCARD" can also be written into the transport appendix of a mobile phone which supports the NFC function.  The use of this function in a mobile phone allows payment of a trip on public transport to be made by simply presenting the mobile phone to the validator in the bus.

Where is STARCARD accepted?

"STARCARD" can be used in Moscow on public transport equipped with validators, including route №400.  The card is not accepted in suburban routes (№№ 500-599).

Where is STARCARD sold, and how is it loaded?

The minimum size of an advance payment is 100 rubles, the maximum is 1000 rubles.  Advance payments can be made in multiples of 100 rubles.
 
The number of standard units is written into the memory of STARCARD at the moment it is "loaded".  Advance payment for the services of participants in "STARCARD" can only be carried for the sums fixed in the memory of STARCARD.
The period of validity for the prepaid services on STARCARD is ONE year from the moment of last use or replenishment of the card. STARCARD’s working life is 5 years from the moment of acquisition.

How to use STARCARD in public transport

To get access to vehicles equipped with validators:

  • Bring STARCARD to a distance of less than 5 cm from any part of the black circle (target) on the validator for 2 seconds;

  • Confirm that the green light on the turnstile is lit up;

  • Pass through the turnstile.

What to do, if the turnstile in a bus does not open after presenting STARCARD?
The green signal may not light up, or the turnstile may not open, for the following reasons:

The validator does not react in any way to the card, or the red signal lights up and there is a sign “No ticket”
Bring STARCARD to the black circle (target), parallel to the target at a distance of no more than 5 cm, and keep the card in this position for not less than 2 seconds.
 
Insufficient funds (the remaining prepaid services on STARCARD is less than is required for the journey).
The indicator on the validator displays a message that there are insufficient units to pay for the journey, and displays the number of remaining units.
 
Load STARCARD with more money.
End of the term of use of the card (a year has passed from the moment of last use or card replenishment)
The indicator on the validator displays a message that the term of the card has expired, and the expired term

Termination of the working life of the card (5 years from the moment of card acquisition)

Technical support

"STARCARD" is a complicated electronic device which requires careful handling.  It should not be subjected to temperatures less than -40 C or above +60 C, damp or aggressive environments, bending, mechanical loads or electromagnetic fields.  The card works with reading devices operating at frequencies of 13.56 MHz.  The card is a passive technical device, has no built in power supply and has no effect on human health.
